Senior Contributors - Student Textbook

Alecia P. Long, PhD, served as a senior contributor and content advisor for this series. Dr. Long is an associate professor in the Department of History at Louisiana State University, where she teaches courses on Louisiana history and the social and cultural history of the United States. Before coming to LSU in 2007, Long taught at Georgia State University and worked as a historian at the Louisiana State Museum. Long received her BA from the University of Tennessee, her MA from Ohio University, and her PhD in American History from the University of Delaware. Her first book, The Great Southern Babylon, focuses on the history of New Orleans and was awarded the Julia Cherry Spruill Prize for the best work published in Southern Women’s History. She is co-editor and authored an article in Occupied Women: Gender, Military Occupation and the American Civil War. Long has appeared in numerous documentaries, has worked on several museum exhibitions, and has written a number of articles on Louisiana subjects, including an article on the state’s history in The Louisiana Field Guide: Understanding Life in the Pelican State. Dr. Long is the author of the Clairmont Press textbook Louisiana: Our History, Our Home.

Michael Cecere is a senior contributor to The United States and Louisiana: Beginnings through Ratification. Mr. Cecere is a retired history teacher who resides in Williamsburg, Virginia, with his wife, Susan. Originally from Maine, he taught high school and college-level American history for thirty years. He has written twenty books and numerous articles on the American Revolution and continues to research and write in retirement. His most recent book, Williamsburg at War: Virginia’s Colonial Capital in the Revolutionary War, explores the impact of the Revolutionary War on Williamsburg, Virginia. When he is not writing, Mr. Cecere is a volunteer at Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement, sometimes as a tobacco farmer, other times as a soldier or a colonial dancer. He participates in Revolutionary War reenactments throughout the east coast and lectures at historic sites and historical societies.

Jason Connor served as a senior contributor for The United States and Louisiana: The Industrial Age Through the Modern Era. Mr. Conner has B.S., M.Ed., and Ed.S. degrees from the University of Georgia. He has extensive experience in middle school and high school contexts. He has taught both World Studies and United States History and has served as a technology integration specialist and school administrator. Mr. Conner has contributed to numerous Clairmont Press resources including MySocialStudies.net, standardized test preparation workbooks, and ancillary materials for several textbook series. When he is not teaching or writing curriculum resources, Mr. Conner enjoys time with his family and high school and college football.

Emmett R. Mullins, EdD, served as director of development and senior contributor for this series. He received a BSEd and MEd in middle grades education with a concentration in social studies, and an EdD in elementary education from the University of Georgia. He has extensive experience in public education, having taught elementary school and undergraduate courses, and served as an instructional technology coordinator and district assessment coordinator. In addition, he has led dozens of professional learning opportunities for educators in social studies, technology integration, and assessment. He has been recognized twice as a Teacher of the Year and district-wide Elementary Teacher of the Year. Dr. Mullins has contributed to numerous instructional resources for teachers at the district and state levels, as well as numerous programs for Clairmont Press.

Author - Teacher Wraparound Edition

Paul E. Binford, PhD, authored the teacher resources for the teacher’s edition and chapter review activities for this series. He holds the rank of associate professor at Mississippi State University (MSU). He serves as co-director of Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Mississippi and is a member of the Library of Congress TPS Consortium. He was previously on the faculty of Louisiana State University. Dr. Binford was a middle school and high school teacher and administrator for 26 years while earning his PhD from Indiana University. He received a Lilly Teaching Creativity Fellowship, the William and Madeline Welder Smith Research Travel Award from the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin, and an SEC Visiting Faculty Travel Grant award. He was president of the Mississippi Council for the Social Studies from 2017 to 2018. Dr. Binford’s scholarly interests include a history of social studies, effective pedagogies for using primary sources in the classroom, and the Pacific Mission. His latest publication is a book chapter in the Teaching with Primary Sources Handbook (2023) published by Teachers College Press.

Meredith R. Mullins is the Special Features contributor for The United States and Louisiana: Beginnings through Ratification. Ms. Mullins has a degree in history and English from Piedmont University and has experience teaching students with special needs in a self-contained classroom setting.
